WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

There are lots of organizations dedicated to the causes we’re dedicated to. Good organizations. Organizations we, both individually and as The Nourish Collective, support wholeheartedly.

There are a few things that make us different*.

- The Nourish Collective’s broad mission encourages diverse projects. While our overarching mission is directed by our Executive Committee, specific programs are led by those with the most vision and passion for that particular project (i.e. visionaries).

- We offer structure, expertise, experience, and in some cases, financial backing, the visionaries might not otherwise have. As a collective we are building a network of collective wisdom and combined resources.

- We’re starting with attainable goals. Do-able projects that will impact lives in healthy, sustainable ways. As we build on our successes, we’ll take more risks.

- As projects succeed, we fully anticipate that we may birth “daughter” organizations. This is a good thing, not competition.

- We hate debt and fuzzy finances. We know some non-profits co-mingle funds, borrow from more funded projects for projects with less funding, and use credit to ease cash flow problems. We reject these business practices and operate with the utmost integrity. This means if we don’t have the money, projects may have to wait.

- If we, as an organization, ever get to the place where we exist — and raise funds — just to exist, it’s time to shut down. The reason we exist is to nourish others, not our own desires, even benevolence.

*aside from the fact that of five Board Members one is a saponifier and does roller derby, one is a single mom to three awesome kids under 8, one owns a cupcake business, one is a goat farmer, and one lives on a commune.
